M TERIALS: 10 ozs. Patons Beehive Finger-
ing, ing, 3-ply (“Patonised” shrink-resist finish). A pair each No. 11 and No. 12 “Beehive” needles. A set of four No. 10 needles, pointed both ends. Twelve buttons.
MEASUREMENTS: To fit 34-36-inch bust; length from top of shoulders, 21 inches; sleeve seam, 18+ inches.
TENSION: 10+ stitches to an inch over ribbing on No. 11 needles, unstretched.
BACK
With No. 12 needles, cast on 130 sts. and work 4 inches k. 1, p. 1 rib. Change to No. 11 needles and continue in rib, increasing at each end of next and every following 8th row until there are 150 sts.
Work straight until side edge measures 13 inches, then shape armholes by casting off 10 at beginning of next 2 rows, and k. 2 tog. at each end of every alternate row until 120 remain.
NEXT ROW: Rib 56, turn and rib back, leaving remainder on a spare needle. NEXT ROW: Rib 52, turn, rib to end. NEXT ROW: Rib 48, turn, rib to end. Continue thus, working 4 sts. less every alternate row until 4 are left unworked. Leave these 56 on a safety-pin.
Join wool at armhole side of remaining 64 sts., rib 56, turn and continue working other half in same way, leaving all 64 on spare needle.
FRONTS
Left: With No. 12 needles, cast on 74 sts. and work 4 inches k. 1, p. 1 rib. Change to .1\ u. 11 needles and continue in rib, increasing at side edge on next and every following 8th row until there are 84 sts.
Work straight until side edge measures 13 inches, then cast off 10 at side edge for armhole and k. 2 tog. at same side until 64 remain. Work yoke shaping as for first half of back, then leave all 64 on spare needle.
Right: Work to correspond with left, working yoke as for second half of back, and making buttonholes up front edge. The first hole comes in 5th and 6th rows, and remaining ones in following 17th and 18th rows.
To make a buttonhole:-Rib 3, cast off 3, work to end and back, casting on 3 over those cast off in previous row.
SLEEVES
With No. 12 needles, cast on 64 sts. and work 3 inches k. 1, p. 1 rib. Change to No. 11 needles and continue in rib, increasing at each end of every 6th row until there are 104 sts.
Work straight until side edge measures required length, then cast off 7 at beginning of next two rows, then k. 2 tog. at each end of every alternate row until 42 remain. Leave these sts. on a spare needle, and make another sleeve.
YOKE
With right side of work facing and set of four No. 10 needles, start at straight edge of right front. From spare needle, rib 10, purl 54, purl across 42 sts. of one sleeve, then across 120 sts. of back, 42 of second sleeve, 54 from left front, and rib last 10 sts. Arrange sts. on 3 needles to simplify working.
