FINISHING — Block full squares to 4 (41/2) ins. square measured across at center, see page 53. Block shaped squares. Arrange squares as shown on chart, having right side up.
Note: Edge of squares No. 3 and 4 without final row of A should be at lower edge.
From right side, with A, sew squares tog, with an overhand st making sure to keep tension of seams as elastic as crochet squares.

Row 4—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in space between dc and first shell, 1 shell in space between shells across row, end 2 dc in space between last shell and turning ch. Repeat rows 3 and 4 for shell pat. Work until same length as front to beg. of armhole shaping, end on right side with row 3. Mark each end of row for armholes.
Armholes—First dec. row—Ch 3, turn. skip first dc and first full shell, work 2 dc in next space, 1 full shell in each of next 17 spaces, 2 dc in next space, skip last full shell, work 1 dc under turning ch.
2nd dec. row—Ch 3, turn, work 2 dc in space between 2 dc and first full shell, I full shell in each of next 16 spaces. 2 dc in next space, 1 dc under turning ch.
3rd dec. row—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in space between 2 dc and first full shell, 1 full shell in each of next 15 spaces, 2 dc in next space, 1 dc under turning ch.
4th dec. row—Ch 3, turn, 1 full shell. in space between 2 dc and first +full shell, 1 full shell in each of next 15 spaces, 1 dc under turning eh; 16 shells. Work even until same length as front to top. Fasten off.
FINISHING—Sew side edges tog. from lower edge to beg. of armholes. Sew about 2 (21/4) ins. at each side of top tog. for shoulders.
CROCHET EDGING—Neck Edge—Beg. at shoulder seam,
from right side, with A. work even number of sc around neck
edge, keeping work flat, join with slip st in first sc.
Row 2—Ch 1, do not turn, work 1 sc in joining st, 1 sc in next st, • ch 3, work 1 sc in side of last sc made—a picot, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts: repeat from • around, end with a picot, join with slip st in first st. Fasten off.
Armhole Edge—Beg. at underarm seam, from right side, with A, work an even number of sc around armhole, holding in to about 15 (16) ins. around –or desired size, join with slip st in first sc.
