Professional machine knitting pattern for a Tuck Stitch Texture sweater featuring three-quarter length set-in sleeves and a wide boat neckline. Designed for standard gauge machines with a ribber.

TUCK STITCH TEXTURE

Three quarter length, set-in sleeves and wide boat neckline feature in this lovely tuck stitch sweater.

MACHINES

This pattern is suitable for standard gauge punchcard or electronic machines with a ribber. If you don't have a ribber, work ribs in mock rib.

MATERIALS

Denys Brunton DeLux 4-ply. (Yarn Guide No. 11.)

1 x 500g cone in Cream (MY).

GARMENT WEIGHT

Finished garment in second size weighs 260g.

The fibre content of this yarn is 100% Courtelle Acrylic.

MEASUREMENTS

To fit bust 82 [87, 92, 97, 102, 107] cm, 32 [34, 36, 38, 40, 42] in.

Actual size 92 [97, 102, 107, 112, 117] cm, 36 [38, 40, 42, 44, 46] in.

Length to shoulder 55 cm, 21 1/2 in.

Sleeve seam 32 cm, 12 1/2 in (adjustable).

Instructions are written for the first size, larger sizes follow in brackets. If only one figure is given, it applies to all sizes.

TENSION

24 stitches and 54 rows to 10 cm, 4 in measured over tuck stitch (tension dial approximately 8).

For perfect results, please check your tension carefully.

KNITTING NOTES

We used purl side of knitting as right side of garment.

Before knitting, prepare any punchcards or electronic sheets needed, from the charts provided. Note that punchcard patterns, as shown, may have to be repeated until the card is a suitable length for knitting.

When shaping in HP, always take yarn round first inside N in HP to prevent a hole forming.

BACK

With carriage at right, set machine for 1x1 rib. Push 56 [59, 62, 65, 68, 71] Ns at right and 57 [60, 63, 66, 69, 72] Ns at left of centre 0 to WP. 113 [119, 125, 131, 137, 143] Ns. Push corresponding Ns on ribber to WP. Arrange Ns for 1x1 rib. Using MY, cast on and K 5 tubular rows. * Carriage is at right. Set carriage for 1x1 rib knitting. Set RC at 000. Using MT-4/MT-4, K 44 rows. Transfer sts for st st *. Insert punchcard and lock on first row. Release card and cont in tuck st patt. K 118 rows. RC shows 120. Place marker at each end.

Shape Armholes

Dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row until 97 [103, 109, 115, 121, 127] sts rem, then on every foll 3rd row until 89 [95, 101, 107, 113, 119] sts rem **. K 80 rows. RC shows 228.

Shape Neck

Note patt row on card. Using nylon cord, K 73 [76, 79, 82, 85, 88] sts at left by hand, taking Ns down to NWP. Cont on rem sts for first side, K 1 row. Dec 1 st at beg of next and every foll alt row until 8 [11, 14, 17, 20, 23] sts rem. Cast off. With carriage at right, unravel nylon cord over 57 Ns at right bringing Ns back to WP. Using WY, K a few rows in st st and release from machine. With carriage at right, unravel nylon cord over rem Ns bringing Ns back to WP. Lock card on number previously noted. Take carriage to left without knitting. Release card and cont in tuck st patt. Finish to correspond with first side, reversing shapings.

FRONT

Work as for back to **. K 76 rows. RC shows 212.

Shape Neck

Note patt row on card. Using nylon cord, K 57 [60, 63, 66, 69, 72] sts at left by hand taking Ns down to NWP. Cont on rem sts for first side. K 1 row. Cast off 2 sts at beg of next and every foll alt row until 16 [19, 22, 25, 28, 31] sts rem, K 1 row. Dec 1 st at beg of next and every foll alt row until 95 sts rem, then on every foll 3rd row until 87 sts rem. Cast off.

SLEEVES

Push 55 Ns at right and 56 Ns at left of centre 0 to WP. 111 Ns. Using MT and WY, cast on and K a few rows ending with carriage at right. Insert punchcard and lock on first row. Set RC at 000. Using MY, K 2 rows. Release card and cont in tuck st patt. K 118 rows. RC shows 120 and work measures 22cm, 8 3/4 in. Adjust length at this stage, if desired. Place a marker at each end.

Shape Top

Dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row until 8 [11, 14, 17, 20, 23] sts rem. Cast off. With carriage at right, unravel nylon cord over 25 Ns at right bringing Ns back to WP. Using WY, K a few rows in st st and release from machine. With carriage at right, unravel nylon cord over rem Ns bringing Ns back to WP. Lock card on number previously noted. Take carriage to left without knitting. Release card and cont in tuck st patt. Finish to correspond with first side, reversing shapings.

CUFFS

With ribber in position and carriage at right, set machine for 1x1 rib. Using MY, cast on 86 sts in 1x1 rib. K 5 tubular rows. Work as for back from * to *. With K side facing, replace 111 sts from lower edge of sleeve to Ns gathering evenly. Using MT, K 1 row. Cast off.

NECKBAND

Join right shoulder seam. With ribber in position and carriage at right, set machine for 1x1 rib. Using MY, cast on 186 sts in 1x1 rib. K 5 tubular rows. Carriage is at right. Set carriage for 1x1 rib knitting. Set RC at 000. Using MT-5/MT-5, K 11 rows. Transfer sts for st st. With K side facing, pick up 186 sts around neck edge and place on to Ns. Using MT, K 1 row. Cast off.

PRESSING

With wrong side facing, pin out all pieces to measurements given. Press carefully following instructions on cone band.

MAKING UP

Join left shoulder and neckband seam. Set in sleeves between markers. Join side and sleeve seams.
