INSTRUCTIONS
Cast on 25 sts with white yarn. Knit 4 rows with white, then 4 rows with gray, then another 4 rows in white, and finally 4 rows in gray. Continue with the white yarn for 17 3/4" / 45 cm (6" / 15 cm). Change to the gray yarn and knit until the piece measures 49 1/4" / 125 cm (19 1/2" / 50 cm) in all. Change back to white and knit for another 17 3/4" / 45 cm (6" / 15 cm). Knit 4 rows gray, 4 rows white, 4 rows gray, and 4 rows white. Bind off all the stitches.
FRINGE
Cut two strands of white yarn 7 3/4" / 20 cm (4" / 10 cm) long. Holding the strands together, fold them in half, then pass the folded end through an edge stitch on one narrow end of the scarf. Put your fingers through this loop, grab the cut ends of the strands, and pull them gently through to form one section of fringe. Add 25 sections of fringe in this way to each end of the scarf.
TIP
The ends of yarn at each color change can be taken up in the first stitches of the next row for a smooth finish.
