* In garter stitch with size 17 (12.75 mm) needles, 4" x 4" / 10 x 10 cm = 7 sts x 14 rows

This scarf is a simple rectangle knit in garter stitch.

Cast on 50 (55, 60) sts and work in garter stitch until the piece measures 15 3/4" / 40 cm long.

Bind off the sts and weave in the ends.

BOW

Cast on 7 sts.

Work in garter stitch until the piece measures about 5" / 13 cm, then bind off.

Wrap the metallic yarn around the middle of the rectangle to form a bow shape. Wrap both ends of the yarn around several times to create a little sparkly band.

Knot the ends together 3 times, then trim them.

FINISHING

Sew the bow to the top right corner of the shawlette.

Sew a button to the top left corner of the rectangle, 2 3/4" / 7 cm from the left edge and 4" / 10 cm from the top.

To attach the shawlette around your neck, just slip the button through the stitches of the opposite side; the bow will hide the button.

CHILD SIZE (3-4 YEARS)

Use 1 skein of yarn. Cast on 45 sts and work in garter stitch until the piece measures 8 1/2" / 22 cm in all. Bind off and weave in the ends. To make the bow, cast on 6 sts and knit for 2 1/4" / 6 cm. Follow the rest of the instructions just as for the adult sizes.
