Ribbed Poncho Free Knit Pattern

Bring in the funk with this cool cropped poncho designed by Gayle Bunn. The chic look is quick to achieve using circular needles and working in a k5, p5 rib.

KNITTED MEASUREMENTS

• Length (without fringe) 16¹/₂ (18¹/₂)”/42 (47)cm

• Circumference around lower edge 55 (61¹/₂)”/139 (156)cm

MATERIALS

• 4 (5) 31/2 oz/100g hanks (each approx 173yd/158m) of Colinette Yains/Unique Colours Tagliatelli (merino wool/nylon) in #135 sahara

• Size 11 (8mm) circular needle, 29″/ 74cm long or size to obtain gauge

• Set of four or five size 11 (8mm) double pointed needles

• Size K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook for attaching fringe

GAUGE

13 sts and 16 rows to 4″/10cm over k5, p5 rib using size 11 (8mm) needles.

Take time to check gauge.

PONCHO

With circular needle, cast on 180 (200) sts loosely. Join, being careful not to twist sts and pm to indicate beg of rnd.

Beg rib pat

Next rnd P5, k5; rep from * around. Rep last rnd for rib pat until work measures 8 (9)”/20.5 (23)cm from beg.

Shape yoke

Note Change to set of four (or five) needles when necessary to accommodate sts.

FINISHING

Fringe Cut 11″/28cm lengths of yarn. Use crochet hook to attach 4-strand fringes in every 5th st around lower edge as shown. Trim fringe evenly.
