The pattern for this purrrfect kitty hat is very basic, but the embroidery really brings the cat to life. Kid classic yarn is a lovely soft choice for this project.
Size: Adult (one size).
Materials:
- 1 x 100g ball of Rowan Kid Classic shade 828, Feather.
- Oddments of sky blue and baby pink wool.
- Dark grey embroidery thread.
Hook:
- Size 4.5mm (US 7) crochet hook.
Tension:

Make 6ch and ss into first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: 12dc into ring (12sts).

Round 3: ch1, rick into next st, 2 dc into next st], rep around, ss into top of ch to join (18 sts).
Round 4: ch1, [1dc into next 2sts, 2 dc into next st], rep around, ss into top of ch to join (24 sts).
Fasten off securely.
Plaits (make 2):
Make long chains using 6 x 1m/1 yard tails. Plait 3 chain tails together.
Pom poms:
Using pink yarn, make 2 porn poms, each with an 8cm/31/4in diameter.
Making up:
Embroider the eyes, nose and whiskers in back and satin stitches, using the photograph opposite to guide you on their positions and colours. Sew the cheeks onto each sides of the hat, behind the whiskers, using pink yarn. Pair up 2 ear pieces and sew them together using an overstitch or the slip-stitch method. Repeat with the other 2 ear pieces. Position the ears on the hat using the photographs to guide you, then sew them onto the hat. Attach 1 porn porn to the end of each plait.
